New Forest Wanderer

Heathland, villages & animals

NB: The following is a typical example of this tour. Your private tour will be tailored to fit your personal requirements regarding time, pick-up location and interests, and may therefore vary from what is described below.

Tour Highlights:

Visit Salisbury Cathedral; drive through the New Forest; visit Minstead & see where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is buried; look out for New Forest ponies; enjoy a cream tea in a thatched restaurant (subject to availability).

Itinerary:

After welcoming you at the Southampton cruise terminal, we drive through the New Forest to visit Medstead which has an intriguing church, and is the burial place of Sherlock Holmes' author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. From here it's a half hour drive or so to the mediaeval city of Salisbury. After a short walk through the city, we will visit the 13th century cathedral with the tallest spire in England, and home to the best-preserved of the remaining Magna Carta from 1215. This will also be your lunch stop. Then it's back to the New Forest to visit Burley, a village which feels as though it's been lost in time (apart from the cars driving through). This village is steeped in stories of witches, dragons and smugglers, and you'll notice the shops make the most of this lore. If we're fortunate, we may see donkeys wandering the streets as if they own the place. You have free time here to explore and shop. A short drive away is Brockenhurst and here we will stop for a cream tea at a thatched restaurant before it's time to get you back to your ship or hotel.

Need to know:

  • Tour lasts 8 hours Southampton - Southampton;
  • 10 hours from and to Farnborough Station (just to be clear; from here Southampton isn't included as a day tour; but this could be adapted to finish at Southampton)
  • Admissions and lunch not included; cream tea added to price.
  • Salisbury Cathedral not open to tourists on Sunday mornings.
  • Seeing New Forest ponies and other animals is highly likely but cannot be guaranteed as they go where they like!

Cost:

£330 per car includes my services and car parking.

Please add £20 p.p. (£15 per 5 - 17 yr old) to cover entrance to Salisbury Cathedral and the cream tea.

**DISCOUNTED PRICE FOR TOURS STARTING & FINISHING AT FARNBOROUGH (AND AREA) OF £280**  (plus the £20 or £15 p.p.)
